Session with Therapist

by Mark A. Foster, Ph.D.

I had an interesting session with my therapist, the one who first diagnosed me with Asperger’s autism, last week.

I asked him whether I appeared to be an Asperger’s autistic. He replied that since, as a psychiatrist, he meets so many different types of people, it would be difficult to judge my appearance. Most people, he said, would likely see me as eccentric.

I then inquired, “Well, am I similar to your other patients who are Asperger’s autistics?” He said, “Yes.” “Thank you,” I responded. “I was hoping you would say that.”
