Generally speaking, I have gotten better at reading nonverbal cues over the years. However, I often feel as though I am faking it – as if I am a well-practiced performer.
With respect to using first names, I have, since becoming an adult, tended to like informality, since it has encouraged me to be less rigid. Once again, what seems to come almost “naturally” to most folks has, to me, been a conscious performance.
As to one of my AS routines: I developed a passion about comparative religion when I was about 10 or 11 years old. I am now 51 years old and a sociology professor specializing in religious studies.
A connection between AS and feminism? Well, I am not sure what that says about me: I am an AS guy who is also a feminist (more precisely, a poststructural feminist). In any event, there is a difference between feminism and male-bashing. Contrary to the statements by some rabid right media personalities, most feminists are not male-bashers. Nonetheless, assuming the person was being serious, I don’t understand how there could be a connection between feminism and AS. If anything, I might see a possible relationship between feminism and the metrosexual fad.
Looking younger than one’s age is a common AS characteristic. As a kid, I hated it. I looked about 12 when I was 18. Now, at 51 years old, it is great to look like I am in my late 30s (as I am told).
